lyrics

Lyrics - In Rapa Nui

He noho he mana’u a nei e
He u’I au a tu’a ko te roa o
A he koe I e’a I oho ai
He ra ia tou ara tomo ena

E a ara he koe I oho ai
Ko te roa o mo tute atu e
Ko te ara mau nei ia au e
Ko te ara mau nei ia au e

Ka va’ai mai koe, tou rima ena
Mo haka maeha, to’oku ara nei
Tou kata ena, me’e tau rahi
Haka kore tahi, te ino mai nei

E te parauti’a I roa no te ara
Ki roa ke roa ke tatou nei I ha’ere ai
E no atu e u’I o haka rehu ro
I tou me’e hapi mai era e te koro tahito era e

Penei, e mo’a te henua he mahia o te atua
Mai runga e u’I atu nei mo arata’I mai I tou mana’u

Vananga tou arero,
mai ta’e ngaro a po
E mo kia hio atu e ana rere koe ki te kona ke
Hai hanga no te ara tou koa e mo rava’a
Ina koe ko noho ina koe ko haka rehe
Ina koe ko ha’ati’a mo huri raua I tou mana’u

E a ara he koe I oho ai
Ko te roa o mo tute atu e
Ko te ara mau nei ia au e
Ko te ara mau nei ia au e

Ka va’ai mai koe tou rima ena
Mo haka maeha to’oku ara nei
Tou kata ena me’e tau rahi
Haka kore tahi te ino mai ne

Hai hanga te mana’u ka haka tika ena
Mo haka riva riva mo haka riva riva ite ao nei e

I sit here and reflect about the long journey behind
where did you go, which way did you take?

Which way did you go?
its so far to reach you
yet is the same path as mine’s
yet is the same path as mine’s

Give me your hand and light my way
your shining smile is so beautiful
makes me forget all sadness

And to be honest, many years has passed
and we’ve all followed different directions
still, never forget what that old wise man taught us

To respect the land, for it’s a gift from the creator
who looks after and watches us from above to guide our footsteps

Speak your mother tongue as it might disappear tomorrow
and it will bring you strength when you find yourself in far away lands
love is the only way to find real happiness
don’t hesitate, don’t lose your faith
don’t let anyone to take that away from you

Which way did you go?
its so far to reach you
yet is the same path as mine’s
yet is the same path as mine’s

Give me your hand and light my way
your shining smile is so beautiful
makes me forget all sadness

If we were to join our thoughts in love
we would be able to make of the world a better place
